You can verify an NBI clearance online for free on the NBI’s own verification page. Enter the NBI ID number printed on the clearance, or scan its QR code, and the system shows the record so you can compare it with the paper copy. The official NBI Clearance website describes it simply: “You can now check NBI Clearance authenticity and validity.”
This guide is for applicants who want to double-check their own clearance and for employers, HR staff and agencies who need to confirm that a clearance is genuine.
We’re here to help you every step of the way. NBI Clearance Online is an independent guide, not the NBI or a government agency. We can’t verify clearances. Use the NBI’s online verification page (verification.nbi-clearance.io), which is linked from the official NBI Clearance website (clearance.nbi.gov.ph).

How to verify an NBI clearance online

- Get the NBI ID number from the clearance, or have the document ready to scan its QR code.
- Open the NBI’s online verification page (verification.nbi-clearance.io). You can also reach it from the “NBI Clearance Online Verification” button on the official NBI Clearance website.
- Enter the NBI ID number in the field and click Verify, or tap Open Scanner and point your camera at the QR code.
- Compare the result with the paper clearance: the name and other details should match exactly.

Use Clear to reset the form before checking another clearance.
Where to find the NBI ID number
The NBI ID number is printed on the clearance itself. It’s the same number you use for online renewal, so keep a photo of it. Newer clearances also carry a QR code that the verification page can scan directly.
If you renewed through the eGovPH app, the app also keeps a verified digital copy of your clearance that you can show when asked. See the NBI clearance renewal guide.
A guide for employers and HR
- Verify every clearance you receive, especially scanned or emailed copies.
- Ask for the original or for the applicant to show their digital copy in the eGovPH app.
- Check the date of issue. A clearance is valid for one year; see how long an NBI clearance is valid.
- Keep a record of the date you verified it and the NBI ID number, in line with your data privacy obligations.
- Don’t reject a “HIT” history. A released clearance means the NBI has completed its checks. See what an NBI clearance HIT means.
Warning signs of a fake clearance
- The NBI ID number returns no record or shows a different name.
- The QR code doesn’t scan, or opens a website that isn’t the NBI’s verification page.
- Spelling mistakes, blurry text or a photo that looks pasted in.
- The applicant got it “without going to the NBI” from a fixer, outside the official system, the eGovPH app or online renewal with delivery.
If you suspect a fake, don’t accept the document, and report it to the NBI.
Common verification problems
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| “No record found” | Re-type the NBI ID number carefully. If it still fails, ask the applicant to check with the NBI. |
| QR code won’t scan | Use the NBI ID number instead, and allow the browser to use your camera if you try the scanner again. |
| Page won’t load | Try again later or on another browser; the NBI’s systems are busiest on weekday mornings. |
| Details don’t match | Ask for the original clearance and the applicant’s valid ID, and verify again. |
FAQs about NBI clearance verification
Is NBI clearance verification free?
Yes. Checking a clearance on the NBI’s online verification page costs nothing.
What do I need to verify an NBI clearance?
The NBI ID number printed on the clearance, or the clearance’s QR code.
Can employers verify my NBI clearance?
Yes. Anyone with the NBI ID number or QR code can check it on the NBI’s verification page. Share it only with employers you trust.
Can I verify an old NBI clearance?
You can try, but an expired clearance isn’t accepted for new applications anyway. Get a new one if it’s more than a year old.
Is a photocopy of an NBI clearance valid?
Employers usually ask for the original. A photocopy can be checked online with its NBI ID number, but the receiving office decides what it accepts.
What if my clearance details are wrong?
Contact the NBI or the branch that issued it. You may need to apply again with corrected details. See our NBI clearance requirements checklist.
