An NBI appointment is the date, time and branch you book online for your NBI clearance photo and fingerprints. You book it on the official NBI Clearance website, pay to confirm it, and then show up at the branch with your reference number and two valid IDs. With no HIT, you usually leave with your clearance the same day.
This guide shows you how to book an NBI appointment step by step, how to pick a branch and slot, what happens on the day, and what to do if you miss it or can’t find a free slot.
We’re here to help you every step of the way. NBI Clearance Online is an independent guide, not the NBI or a government agency. Appointments are booked only on the official NBI Clearance website (clearance.nbi.gov.ph). Nobody can sell you a “guaranteed slot”, and you should never share your password or OTP.

What is an NBI appointment?
An NBI appointment is your reserved visit to an NBI clearance branch. The NBI serves applicants by online appointment so each branch can plan how many people it processes per day. During the visit, staff verify your identity and capture your photo, fingerprints and signature, then check your name against NBI records.
You need an appointment if you are:
- applying for an NBI clearance for the first time;
- getting a new clearance because your name or other details changed;
- not eligible for online delivery or eGovPH, and need to claim at a branch.
If your last clearance was issued on or after October 16, 2016, you may be able to skip the appointment entirely. See our NBI clearance renewal guide for the online and eGovPH options.
How to book an NBI appointment online
Booking takes about 10–15 minutes. Have your valid IDs, an active mobile number and an email address ready.
Step 1: Open the official NBI Clearance website
Go to the official NBI Clearance website (clearance.nbi.gov.ph). Bookmark it, and ignore look-alike sites and social media pages that ask for payment to “book” for you.

Step 2: Register or log in
Create an account with your email and mobile number, then enter the one-time password (OTP) sent to you. If you already have an account, simply log in.
Step 3: Complete the applicant form
Fill in your personal details exactly as they appear on your valid IDs and PSA birth certificate. See tips for the form below.
Step 4: Click “Apply for Clearance”
Choose the type of valid ID you will present at the branch and confirm the purpose of your clearance.
Step 5: Pick your branch, date and slot
Select the NBI clearance branch you want, then an available date and an AM or PM time slot.
Step 6: Pay to confirm your appointment
Choose a payment channel (GCash, Maya, 7-Eleven, Bayad Center or online banking) and pay ₱130 plus the e-payment charge. Your reference number is your proof of booking. Screenshot it, print it, and keep your receipt. For a full breakdown of amounts, see our NBI clearance fee guide.
Filling in the NBI appointment form
The online applicant form is where most mistakes happen. It typically asks for your full name, sex, civil status, birth date and birthplace, nationality, address, contact details and a few physical descriptors, plus details about your parents and, if married, your spouse.
Before you submit:
- Copy your name exactly from your IDs, including your full middle name and suffix such as Jr. or III.
- Use your current legal name. If you married and changed your surname, bring the PSA marriage certificate to the branch.
- Check your birth date and birthplace; they must match your PSA birth certificate.
- Use an email and number you can access; the NBI sends updates and OTPs there.
Mismatched details are the most common reason applicants are sent home or asked to correct their record at the branch.
Choosing your branch, date and time slot
The official appointment system lists 176 clearance centers nationwide, including sites inside malls and city halls. Use our NBI clearance center finder to see the ones near you. Choosing well can save you hours:
- Pick a branch you can reach easily on the day. Mall-based sites can be convenient but may follow mall opening hours.
- Choose the AM slot if you can. Queues tend to grow through the day.
- Book early. Slots fill up fast in Metro Manila and big cities, especially around January to March, graduation season and before major hiring periods.
- Be flexible. If your nearest branch is full, a branch a little farther away may have slots this week.
What happens on your appointment day
Arrive about 15–30 minutes before your slot and bring:

- Your reference number (printed or on your phone)
- Proof of payment
- Two valid government-issued IDs, original and not expired
For the full list of accepted IDs and extra documents, see our NBI clearance requirements checklist.
At the branch, the process usually goes:
- Queue and verification: staff check your reference number, payment and IDs.
- Biometrics: your photo, fingerprints and digital signature are captured.
- Name check: the system compares your name with NBI records.
- Release: if there is no match, your clearance is printed and released.
According to the NBI’s Citizen’s Charter, the processing steps themselves take only a few minutes; most of your time is spent in the queue.
Dress code: the NBI enforces a dress code for the official photo. Avoid sando, tank tops, shorts and slippers. Smart casual or a collared shirt is recommended.
If your name gets a HIT, you won’t get your clearance that day. You’ll be given a release date, usually after 5–10 working days. Learn more in what an NBI HIT means.
Missed your NBI appointment?
Don’t pay again yet. According to the NBI, recent system updates allow a 15-day grace period once your transaction is marked “PAID”. This means you can typically still visit your chosen branch within 15 days of your appointment window.
What to do:
- Log in to the official NBI Clearance website and check that your application still shows as “PAID”.
- Go to the same branch you selected within the 15-day window, with your reference number, receipt and IDs.
- If the window has passed or the branch can’t process you, ask the branch staff or contact the NBI before you create and pay for a new application.
Can you reschedule or cancel an NBI appointment?
The NBI has not published a separate reschedule or cancel procedure for paid appointments. In practice:
- Before paying: you can simply leave the application unpaid and book again later with a new date. Your slot isn’t confirmed until you pay.
- After paying: rely on the 15-day grace period to visit on another day. If you need more time than that, ask your branch or the NBI how they want you to proceed. Don’t pay for a second application without checking first.
Can you get an NBI clearance without an appointment?
The NBI’s Citizen’s Charter still describes a walk-in process, but branches serve booked applicants first and walk-in slots are limited or unavailable at busy offices. To avoid being turned away, book and pay online before you go. It takes only a few minutes and confirms your place in the queue.
Common NBI appointment problems and fixes
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| No available slots | Try other nearby branches, check again early the next morning, or pick a later date. |
| OTP not received | Check spam, confirm your number has signal, and wait a few minutes before requesting a new code. |
| Paid but status not “PAID” | Keep your receipt and wait a few hours; e-payments can take time to post. Don’t pay twice. |
| Lost reference number | Log in to your account on the official NBI Clearance website to view your transaction again. |
| Website slow or not loading | Try late at night or early morning, and use a stable connection. |
| Wrong details after paying | Bring your PSA birth certificate and IDs to the branch and ask staff to correct your record. |
Tips for getting an earlier NBI appointment
- Check several branches, not just the closest one.
- Look early in the morning, when the system is less busy.
- Avoid peak months such as January to March and graduation season if you can plan ahead.
- Prepare everything before you book so you can confirm a slot as soon as you find one.
- Don’t use fixers; paying someone for a slot is risky and can expose your personal data.

Frequently asked questions about NBI appointments
Is the NBI appointment free?
Booking itself is free on the official NBI Clearance website. You only pay the ₱130 clearance fee plus the e-payment charge to confirm your slot. First-time jobseekers may qualify for a free clearance under RA 11261.
How long does an NBI appointment take?
The actual processing takes only a few minutes. Expect to spend longer at busy branches because of the queue, especially in Metro Manila.
Can I go to my NBI appointment early?
Come 15–30 minutes before your slot. Arriving on a different day is not guaranteed, but the 15-day grace period after “PAID” status gives you some flexibility.
What happens if I miss my NBI appointment?
You can usually still visit your chosen branch within 15 days once your payment shows as “PAID”. After that, ask the branch or the NBI before paying for a new application.
Can I book an appointment at any NBI branch?
Yes. You can choose any NBI clearance branch that has open slots. You don’t have to use the branch where you applied before.
Can someone book an NBI appointment for me?
A family member can help you fill in the form and pay, but you must appear in person for your photo and fingerprints. Never give your account password or OTP to a stranger.
How far ahead should I book?
Book as soon as you know you’ll need the clearance, ideally one to two weeks ahead in big cities and during peak months.
