NBI Clearance Renewal 2026: How to Renew Online

Last reviewed: October 2, 2026 by the NBI Clearance Online Editorial Team

Renewing your NBI clearance is much easier than getting your first one. If your last clearance was issued on or after October 16, 2016 and your personal details haven’t changed, you can renew online and have it delivered, or, since July 2026, renew in the eGovPH app in about five minutes. You only need to visit an NBI branch if you don’t qualify for online renewal or if your renewal gets a HIT.

This guide explains each renewal option, who qualifies, what it costs, how long delivery takes, and what to do when the system says you can’t renew online.

We’re here to help you every step of the way. NBI Clearance Online is an independent guide, not the NBI or a government agency. Renewals are done only through the official NBI Clearance website (clearance.nbi.gov.ph), the eGovPH app, or an NBI branch. Never share your password or OTP with anyone offering to “renew it for you”.

How to renew NBI clearance online, step by step

This is the standard online renewal on the official NBI Clearance website (clearance.nbi.gov.ph). It has been available since June 2021 and lets you skip the branch entirely if you choose delivery.

Step 1: Log in or create your account

Open the official NBI Clearance website and log in. If you never made an online account (for example, your last clearance was a walk-in), register with your email and mobile number and verify with the OTP.

Step 2: Choose renewal and enter your old NBI ID number

Select the renewal option and type the NBI ID number from your previous clearance. The system uses it to pull up your existing record, so you don’t have to re-encode your full profile.

Step 3: Check your details

Review your name, birth date, birthplace and address. These must match your previous clearance exactly. If anything has changed, stop here: you need to apply as a new applicant instead (see branch renewal).

Step 4: Choose delivery or branch release

You can have the renewed clearance delivered to your address, or pick a branch and schedule to claim it in person (or through an authorized representative). Delivery charges depend on your location and are shown before you pay.

Step 5: Pay the renewal fee

Pay ₱130 plus the e-payment charge, and the delivery fee if you chose delivery, through GCash, Maya, 7-Eleven, Bayad Center or online banking. Save your reference number and receipt.

Step 6: Wait for delivery or go to the branch

Delivered clearances usually arrive in about 3–7 days in Metro Manila and Luzon and 7–10 days in the Visayas and Mindanao. If you chose a branch, bring your reference number and two valid IDs on your schedule.

Important: if your renewal comes back with a HIT, it cannot be completed by delivery. You will be asked to appear personally at the NBI for verification.

How to renew in the eGovPH app (NBI eClearance)

On July 6, 2026, the NBI and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) launched NBI eClearance on the eGovPH Super App. Verified eGovPH users can renew in as little as five minutes and keep a verified digital copy of their clearance on their phone.

The steps in the app are:

  1. Open the eGovPH Super App and log in to your verified account.
  2. Go to the national government agencies section, select the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), then NBI Clearance.
  3. Review the digital copy of your existing clearance and check its status.
  4. Update any requested details, such as your place of birth.
  5. Check the summary, tick the certification box and tap Renew Clearance.
  6. Choose door-to-door delivery or pick-up at an NBI office, then complete payment.
  7. Once processed, your verified digital clearance is updated in the app, and the printed copy is delivered or ready for pick-up.

Menu names may change as the app is updated. If the app says you are not eligible, use the online renewal on the official NBI Clearance website instead.

Is eGovPH only for renewals? Yes. As of October 2026 the NBI describes eClearance as a renewal service for existing clearance holders. First-time applicants still need to visit a branch for photo and fingerprints.

Renewing at an NBI branch

You need to renew at a branch (as a new application) if:

  • your previous clearance was issued before October 16, 2016, or you no longer have your old NBI ID number;
  • your name, birthday or birthplace changed, for example after marriage or a court-approved correction;
  • the system tells you that you do not qualify for online renewal.

The process is the same as a first-time application: register online, choose your branch and schedule, pay, then visit for biometrics. Our NBI appointment guide explains how to book a slot and what happens on the day. You don’t have to go back to the branch where you got your first clearance; any NBI clearance center will do. See the full step-by-step application guide.

NBI clearance renewal requirements

What you need depends on the option you choose:

Renewal optionWhat to prepare
Online renewal with deliveryOld NBI ID number, active email and mobile number, delivery address, payment
Online renewal with branch releaseOld NBI ID number, reference number, proof of payment, two valid government-issued IDs
eGovPH appVerified eGovPH account, existing NBI clearance record, payment
Branch renewal (as new)Reference number, proof of payment, two valid government-issued IDs; PSA document if your name changed
Requirements by renewal option.

Accepted IDs include the Philippine passport, National ID, UMID, driver’s license, PRC license and postal ID. See the full NBI clearance requirements and ID list.

How much does NBI renewal cost?

Renewing costs the same as a new application (see the full NBI clearance fee breakdown):

  • ₱130 clearance fee, unchanged since March 2018
  • About ₱25–₱30 e-payment service charge, depending on the payment channel
  • Delivery fee, only if you choose door-to-door delivery; the amount depends on your location and is shown before you pay

First-time jobseekers who qualify under RA 11261 can get their first clearance free, but that benefit applies to the first clearance only, not to renewals.

“You do not qualify for online renewal”: what it means

If you see this message, the system could not match you to an eligible record. The usual reasons are:

  • your last clearance was issued before October 16, 2016; the official website says online renewal with delivery covers clearances from that date onwards;
  • the NBI ID number was typed incorrectly; check the number printed on your old clearance;
  • your name, birthday or birthplace differ from your previous record;
  • your record needs manual verification, for example because of a HIT.

What to do: double-check the NBI ID number and your details first. If it still fails, apply as a new applicant and visit a branch. It costs the same and usually takes one visit.

Online renewal not working? Quick fixes

  • OTP not arriving: check your spam folder, make sure your mobile number has load or signal, and wait a few minutes before requesting a new code.
  • Site not loading: the official website is busiest on weekday mornings; try late evening or early morning.
  • Payment not reflected: keep your receipt and wait a few hours before paying again. Paying twice creates two transactions.
  • No slots at your branch: choose delivery, a different branch or a later date.

When should you renew?

Your NBI clearance is valid for one year from the date of issue (see how long an NBI clearance is valid). Renew a few weeks before it expires if you need it continuously, and allow extra time if you’re choosing delivery to the Visayas or Mindanao. Many employers and embassies prefer a clearance issued within the last six months, so check their requirement before you apply.

Use the Validity checker tab in the tool above to see exactly when your current clearance expires.

Frequently asked questions about NBI renewal

How much is NBI clearance renewal in 2026?

₱130 plus an e-payment charge of about ₱25–₱30, so most people pay about ₱155–₱160. Add the delivery fee if you choose door-to-door delivery.

Can I renew my NBI clearance before it expires?

Yes. You don’t have to wait for your clearance to expire. Each renewal gives you a new clearance valid for one year from its new date of issue.

Do I need to renew at the same branch where I first applied?

No. You can renew online, through eGovPH, or at any NBI clearance center.

How long does NBI renewal take?

The eGovPH app takes about five minutes to apply. Delivery takes about 3–7 days in Metro Manila and Luzon and 7–10 days in the Visayas and Mindanao. Branch release is the same day if there’s no HIT.

What happens if I get a HIT when renewing?

You’ll need to appear personally at the NBI for verification, and the clearance is usually released after 5–10 working days. There’s no extra fee. See what an NBI clearance HIT means.

My clearance is from 2015. Can I renew online?

No. Online renewal with delivery covers clearances issued on or after October 16, 2016. You can still register using a 2014-or-later clearance to save time, then book a branch visit. Older clearances need a new application.

Can I renew my NBI clearance from abroad?

If you have a verified eGovPH account, try the app first. Otherwise, apply through the NBI’s mailed clearance process. See our guide to getting an NBI clearance from abroad.
